The world’s most famous fountain is found in Rome. Commissioned in 1730 by Pope Clement XII, designed and started by Nicola Salvi, and completed by Giuseppe Pannini, the Trevi Fountain is visited daily by thousands of people, many of whom carry out the custom of tossing coins over their shoulder into the fountain. That custom inspired the title of a noted Hollywood film, “Three Coins in a Fountain.”
